ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, December 22, 2014 – GIS: The National Parenting Programme of the Ministry of Social Development and Housing encourages parents to be responsible this Christmas season.
Children are at home on vacation and are sometimes left under-supervised or unsupervised altogether. Consequently, they may engage in activities that can be detrimental to their well-being, for example playing with matches and alcohol consumption.
Please be mindful that there is a legal drinking age and that cultural practices are not an excuse for a child consuming alcohol.
Additionally, remember to be a SPICY Parent this Christmas season.
S- SPEAK to your children about positive behaviors that are expected of them.
P- PAY attention to your children at home and away from home. Pay attention to the friends and companions that they keep.
I- INSPIRE good behaviour in your children by displaying appropriate behaviour yourself
C- CHECK with your children so that you are always aware of their whereabouts. (Always keep in touch)
Y-YOU are fully responsible for your children so take control.
Happy Holidays from the National Parenting Programme!
