Trinidad and Grenada to develop an MOU on energy cooperation

ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, OCT. 27, 2015 GIS: New Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley, has committed the technical support of Trinidad and Tobago professionals, including key resources from PETROTRIN, in assisting Grenada to develop its energy sector, by evaluating its options and identifying the most feasible way forward within the shortest possible time frame.

 

This was a decision take at the inaugural meeting between Prime Ministers Dr. Keith Mitchell of Grenada and Dr. Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago, at the latter’s Port of Spain office on October 2. The leaders were at the time, discussing the Framework Agreement for Cooperation in Energy Sector Development, including possible joint development of Block 21 and other areas.

 

The two Prime Ministers emphasized the importance of energy development and energy security to their respective country’s development.

 

The two leaders noted that given Trinidad and Tobago’s relatively advanced stage of development in petro-carbon development, that the Trinidad and Tobago government would provide technical assistance to Grenada to urgently evaluate the options for rapid development of the sector. 

 

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, for his part, stated that as Minister for Energy, he will move speedily to put a team in place that would include participation Minister Bowen and the energy department, as well as representatives from private sector companies that are presently engaged in energy development in Grenada, to work with their Trinidad and Tobago counterparts to explore all options with respect to energy cooperation and advancement.

 

The two parties agreed that in the meantime, Trinidad and Tobago’s government will prepare and submit a Memorandum of Understanding for consideration by Grenada, and eventual agreement.
