ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Tuesday 7th June, 2016 – GIS: Police officers in New York with Grenadian roots have raised 6000 United States dollars to assist the widow and children of a local police man who dies in the line of duty.
The officers have reported that a bingo in Brooklyn with a 1000 US dollar jackpot was well attended.
Detective Corporal Daniel Errol Edgar was gunned down in April while attempting to resolve a hostage situation with an armed gun man in St. Marks.
The event was well attended by supporters from Canada, Grenada, Trinidad, Guyana, and Antigua among other friends and well wishers from various nationalities.
The officers say a total of $6000 US was collected and will be handed over to the Spouse of the Slain police officer.
Police officers in New York with Grenadian roots who organized the fund raiser included LT Nimrod Ollivierre --10 precinct, PO Moses Charles--70 precinct, PO Leroy Samuel---Queens Central Bookings and PO Lydon Williams---7 precinct.
The organizers have also decided to form a Grenadian New York Police Department Group to support the Royal Grenada Police Force.
They say they are looking to raise funds to outfit each local station with, at least one dozen Bullet Resistant Vest which Officers can utilize when responding to dangerous situations.
